The Washington Post reports that there is one interesting feature about tonight’s speech: the location. President Obama will give his speech about ISIS from the “State Floor” of the White House, rather than from a more familiar location like the Rose Garden or Oval Office. Here’s what the Post has to say about this location for the speech:
“The State Floor is on the first floor of the White House residence, essentially just inside the doors were you to enter the main building from the north…the location of the president’s speech will presumably be in the area at the bottom of the Grand Staircase.
As we mentioned, he doesn’t usually have listed events in this location. We surveyed the past four years of the president’s schedule, and only found two other instances in which it was listed as the location for an event: A meeting with Senate Democrats in June, and a reception for new members of Congress in January 2011.”
The President is expected to outline a strategy to deal with ISIS, and will likely ask for funding from Congress to defeat the ISIS threat. Fox News recently reported that the military effort needed to destroy ISIS would take three years. Presumably, that kind of strategy would cost billions of dollars.
