What’s New In Games This Week

After last week’s big releases, it’s perhaps okay that things are on the light side. After all, not only should most of us be out and about this 4th of July week, but Resident Evil for the 3DS and Super SF4 Arcade Edition should be keeping everyone plenty busy still. But moving on…

The latest chapter of the big bug fight is here. What started as a budget title sensation for the PS2 in Japan has evolved into a budget title cult hit for the 360 in America. Again, you’re part of Earth’s last line of defense against gigantic (and I mean GIGANTIC) eight-legged freaks. Though it’s being made by an American developer this time around, so the jury is still out on how it’ll ultimately compare with the previous hits. Also, not going to lie: it lacks some of the polish of other releases, but again, it’s for budget conscious gamers who want the most bang for one’s buck. Xbox 360, PS3

Tired of all the 4th July activities, yet? How about running around, chasing after monkeys with flashing sirens on their domes? This time around, the game’s presented as an on-rails shooter. Though instead of just shooting holes into their annoying little bodies (as tempting as it might be), you’ll be using the Move to weld a wide assortment of entrapment tools, including a slingshot, net, and a gigant Japanese paper fan? Whatever works I guess. Perhaps more fun than a barrel full of monkeys (sorry, couldn’t resist). PS3
