De Niro and 50 Cent Shack Up in the Cop Drama Freelancers

Sorry, Martin Scorsese, Robert De Niro’s grown tired of you running around with Leonardo DiCaprio and found his own young’un to make movies with. De Niro and 50 Cent are teaming up again after 2008’s Righteous Kill in the cop thriller Freelancers.

50 Cent plays the son of a slain NYPD officer who joins the force to carry on his father’s legacy. It’s not long before he falls in with his father’s former partner (De Niro) and a team of rogue cops that don’t play by the rules. The good cop / bad cop / rookie cop / jaded veteran cop drama has been done to death more times than the teen slasher flick, but Hollywood keeps making it and people keep watching it. And honestly, why wouldn’t they? It’s a classic story of right and wrong involving the people who are expected to uphold the law.

This movie could be another sucky carbon copy of every cop film before it, full of bad one-liners and plot holes or it could be the next Training Day. One thing’s for sure, if anybody in this movie pulls out a stellar performance it won’t be 50 or De Niro. Forest Whitaker owns this trailer.
