The Rolling Stones Release First New Song in Six Years, ‘Doom and Gloom’

Considering that drummer Charlie Watts is 71 and the rest of the Stones aren’t far behind, just mustering the energy to write a new song is a feat in of itself for guys who should be picking up canes rather than guitars.

The Rolling Stones have released their first news song in six years for upcoming 50th aniversary album GRRR!. The song “Doom and Gloom” has a gritty, uptempo blues rock beat sounds like something ripped from 1974. It’s nothing new or innovative for the band, but then again, new and innovative is something the majority of Stones fans probably don’t want to hear.

Some critics have argued that while the band sounds in top form, Jagger’s vocals are showing their age.

The best bit is when he stops singing and starts blowing [harmonica].” – Neil McCormick of the Daily Telegraph
