Best known for being an American singer, songwriter, and actress, Lauryn Hill checked into federal prison in Connecticut this morning. According to TMZ.com, the 38-year-old hip-hop star failed to file her tax returns for the $1.8 million she earned between the years 2005-2007. She pled guilty to three counts of the crime just last year, and has been sentenced to three months in prison— which started today.

Three months is a long time… And, in case you’re wondering, Hill did share some parting words just days before being shipped away!

According to Vibe, this is what she had to say:

The concept of reverse racism is flawed, if not absolutely ridiculous. Most, if not all of the negative responses from people of color toward white people, are reactions to the hatred, violence, cruelty and brutality that they were shown by white people for centuries.

Then, she moved onto her tax evasion case, saying:

I shuddered during sentencing when I kept hearing the term ‘make the IRS whole’… make the IRS whole, knowing that I got into these very circumstances having to deal with the very energies of inequity and resistance that created and perpetuated these savage inequalities.
