Troian Bellisario is making headlines for her upcoming February issue of Seventeen magazine. Check out the 5 Fast Facts on Bellisario in addition to the problems from her past …

1. Troian Bellisario Is Known as Spencer Hastings on Pretty Little Liars

The season premiere of Pretty Little Liars airs tomorrow night with Troian Bellisario as the character Spencer Hastings. Here’s a sneak peek for you in the above video.

For those of you not familiar with the show, Hastings is one of the “liars” of the show. The character biography on the PLL website describes Hastings as:

If you were to describe Spencer Hastings, you would probably say that she is extremely intelligent, overachieving, and extremely wealthy … Family life can be very difficult for Spencer; her parents are often too busy to be with her and she often doesn’t get along with her older sister, Melissa. Having an intellectual sister and demanding parents, Spencer doesn’t want anything less than perfect.

2. She Finds Herself Relating a Lot to Her Character on PLL

Much like the character of Spencer Hastings, Bellisario finds the need for perfection in her life. E! Online reports Bellisario confessing to a very stressful upbringing saying:

I was the youngest daughter, the perfect little girl. My school was a very intense college prep school. So it was about wanting to please my father and mother and wanting to be perfect to everybody. I just thought if I ever expressed to [my parents] any sadness or anger or anything that’s going on with me, they would disown me. I kept a lot of it bottled up inside, and it turned into self-destructive behavior.

3. Bellisario Has Suffered From an Eating Disorder

Because Bellisario felt a great deal of pressure growing up, she began to develop an eating disorder in hopes of creating some sort of balance in her life. Of course, it had the reverse effect. The actress reveals to Seventeen:

I would withhold food or withhold going out with my friends, based on how well I did that day in school.

4. Her Friends Betrayed Her When She Was a Teen

They say that your teenage years are hell and I’m sure Bellisario would agree considering she thinks of that time in her life as somewhat of a prison.

I felt this sadness, and I thought if people really knew what was going on inside me, they wouldn’t want to hang out with me.

To make matters worse, she was betrayed by her friends when they invaded her privacy, going through her diary.

They got a hold of my journal and basically said, ‘We don’t trust you, and we’re gonna tell your parents.’ That was when my world kind of exploded. It was kind of like an intervention.

5. Pretty Little Liars Puts Pressure on Bellisario to be “Pretty”

While she says that cast-mates Lucy Hale, Shay Mitchell, and Ashley Benson are all very supportive, Bellisario admits she sometimes feels a lot of pressure to be beautiful because she’s on television. E! Online quotes her saying:

Honestly, it’s an ongoing struggle. Especially for a woman on a show that has the word ‘pretty’ in it! Sometimes I feel like I’m trying too hard, like I don’t belong. I just look around at Lucy, Shay and Ashley and I’m just like, ‘Why am I on this show?’ Sometimes I’ve felt like a fraud. Like, I’m not like these other girls—I don’t dress like that and I don’t know how to do my hair. The minute I’m off that stage, I try to get as ‘me’ as possible. I do that by piling on my black eyeliner, and I put on my ripped tights. Dressing like myself again helps.
