‘Game of Thrones’ Actor Kristian Nairn Comes Out as Gay: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

In an interview with Game of Thrones fan site Winter is Coming, actor Kristian Nairn came out as gay. Nairn plays that character Hodor on the insanely popular HBO show.

Game of Thrones returns to TV screens on April 6.

Here’s what you need to know:


1. He Says ‘It’s Important To Stand Up and Be Counted’

Nairn told the site that he only considers his homosexuality to be a small part of his identity. He says:

In this day and age, it’s important to stand up and be counted. I have and always will stand my ground.


2. He Can’t Believe His Sexuality Has Been Kept Secret For This Long

He says his cast mates on Game of Thrones have been hugely supportive. In fact, he was surprised the issue hadn’t come out earlier:

I’ve never hidden my sexuality from anyone, my whole life in fact, and I’ve been waiting for someone to ask about it in an interview, [because] it’s not something you just blurt out. I’ve tried to lead the questions a few times, to no avail!

3. His Character is Known For Being Naked in the Show

In a show that is notorious for its female nudity, Nairn represents the sole male nakedness on the show.


4. Nairn Has Another TV Gig Right Now

He is also known to TV lovers for his role in the BBC show Ripper Street.

5. When He’s Not Acting, Nairn Spins the Decks

In addition to his acting, Nairn also works as a DJ. Nairns is a native of Lisburn in Northern Ireland.
