As the days wind down toward the final episode of the fourth season of The Walking Dead, fans are scrambling for any information available on this AMC special. Rumors are floating around, preview videos are available to see, and theories abound surrounding who will be killed in action during this highly anticipated episode.

We’ve gathered up some valid information on everything you need to know before you watch everything go down in Episode 16 on March 30, 2014.

1. Rick Grimes Will Play a Major Part

If you watched the Walking Dead Season 4 finale preview after the latest episode, then you probably have a feeling that Rick Grimes will encounter something or someone that will affect him negatively. While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, comic book series creator Robert Kirkman clues fans in regarding what Rick will be going through in Episode 16:

This last half of Season 4 has been a character defining group of stories for everyone. but really, Rick Grimes — really finding what this guy is going to be able to do and how he is going to carry on, and is he going to get these people back together, and where is he going to go from here? And I think there are some big questions that are asked that are going to be answered in this final episode.

This is Rick Grimes being pushed to his absolute limit. And if you think you’ve seen that before, you haven’t. And the Rick Grimes that comes out of this is really going to shock people.


2. The Cliffhanger Will Leave Fans Desperate for Answers

For such a major season finale, we can all expect to be left with a closing shot of a major plot point that will all add up into a cliffhanger that won’t be expounded upon until Season 5. Robert Kirkman even backed the fact that Episode 16 of The Walking Dead will leave fans hungry for more during his Entertainment Weekly interview:

We’re definitely going to being bringing things to another level. And the anticipation for the next season after this finale is unfortunately going to be a lot more heightened than it has been between any other season. So it’s going to be a rough summer for Walking Dead fans waiting for us to come back in the fall.


3. Preview Videos of the Episode Have Been Released

4. Promotional Posters Hint Give Clues & Hidden Messages

Two promotional posters have been released in preparation for the final episode of Season 4. The first pic seen above shows Rick, Michonne and Carl in an image that seems to show them in the middle of combat. The teaser that can be seen on this poster features the words “WHO WILL SURVIVE?” and “#TERMINUS.” If fans really read into the details on display in this pic, then you’ll surely notice that it seems like these survivors will deal with a major threat before they finally arrive at Terminus.

The second promotional poster shows Carol. It’s interesting to note that this poster displays Carol with a backpack that seemingly looks like it’s holding little baby Judith. This time, the words “WHO WILL SURVIVE?” are scribbled across this pic. Does this mean that Tyreese will possibly not survive the long trek to Terminus? These Season 4 finale promotional posters include a host of clues and hidden messages that point to the biggest reveals of that episode.


5. Season 5 Isn’t Starting Until October 2014

Once the 4th season of The Walking Dead comes to a close, fans will be left waiting for a long time until the fifth season debuts. A solid release date for the first episode of this new season hasn’t been set, but we do know that it will be shown sometime in October 2014. This news became a reality when AMC announced it renewed the hit show for Season 5 on October 29, 2013.

It was later confirmed through a casting call when it was announced that Rick and a certain group of followers will be making their way to Washington, D.C., once the season begins. The overall casting process for the fifth season took place sometime around December 2013.
