2. Ski Masks Are Their Signature

The band often utilizes ski masks as part of their performances. On tonight’s MTV Movie Awards, they will be bringing their usual attire for the members of the audience to wear. MTV talks about tonight’s performance at the Movie Awards saying:

The performers took the rehearsal stage on Saturday (April 12) at L.A.’s Nokia Theater, and they brought their signature ski masks with them — one for everyone in the audience — making for a rather terrifying scene. Singer Tyler Joseph also put one on later in rehearsals, as Josh Dun drummed on in the background.

3. The Band Is a Two-Man Group From Ohio

Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun hail from Columbus, Ohio under the label Fueled By Ramen. Nick Thomas and Chris Salih used to be in the group, but the current members are just Tyler and Josh. According to Wikipedia:

The band was formed in 2009 in Columbus, Ohio by college friends, Tyler Joseph, Nick Thomas, and Chris Salih … In mid 2011, Thomas and Salih sequentially left due to busy schedules and Joseph was joined by Josh Dun.[4] Both posted farewell notes on the band’s official Facebook page.

4. Tyler Joseph Came Up With the Band Name

The name of the band was pretty much chosen by Tyler and there’s actually a very interesting reason for the name.

Joseph came up with the band’s name while studying “All My Sons” by Arthur Miller, a play about a man who must decide what is best for his family after causing the death of twenty one pilots during World War II because he knowingly sent them faulty parts for the good of his business. Joseph explains that this story of moral dilemma was the inspiration for the name of the band.

5. They’re Working on Another Album

In November 2013, the band spoke with Rolling Stone and Tyler spilled the beans on their latest music, saying that they have another album in the works.

It’s the kind of album, we think, that would give you shivers down your spine, or something to that effect, if you were driving alone in the dark”, he said. “It’ll have sort of a chilled-out, mysterious vibe to go with it.” In the same interview, Dun confirmed that the two would extend their touring for Vessel through the first quarter of the new year. Additionally, the band’s producer, Greg Wells, has stated on several occasions that ‘big things’ are coming for Twenty One Pilots.
