In their second film together, the lovable pair is married and make a sex tape that accidentally gets sent to their family and friends.
The roles required them to film some pretty intimate scenes, but the two are so close that they were completely comfortable around one another.
Here’s all you need to know about their relationship.
1. Their Movie Is ‘Pro Sex-Tape’
Segel had gotten the movie’s script beforehand and told Jimmy Kimmel, “There’s no one I wanted to do it with more than Cameron.”
The premise of the movie is that the couple tries to bring a spark back to their union by creating a sex tape. They then proceed to replicate the entire book of “The Joy of Sex” in one night.
“We’re saying, basically, to save your marriage, you must make a sex tape. There’s plenty of marriages out there that will find that out,” movies/cameron-diaz-and-jason-segel-on-sex-tape.html?_r=0″ target=”_blank”>Diaz told the Times.
Although some actors may find this plot daunting, Segel said that he and Diaz took it in stride.
To do something like this has the potential to be very awkward. But we share a mentality that, when it comes to comedy, the bottom line is it being as funny as it can possibly be, and that involves being pride free. That could have been awkward with a different partnership. But we laughed so much more than we cringed.
2. When They Were ‘Bad Teachers’ He Said She Had Zero Attraction to Him
They first worked together on 2011’s Bad Teacher, where they played coworkers.
In the video above, Segel jokingly laments that his female costar had no interest in him…at all.
“…Cameron Diaz, in real life, has zero attraction to me. And believe me, I tried…She just couldn’t have cared less…She does a great deal of acting to seem attracted to me,” he said.
When Segel was asked by Collider what it was like to work with Diaz for the first time, he gushed:
First of all, she’s so nice and gracious and kind, which I knew going in. I’ve never heard a bad word said about Cameron. Everyone just exalts on how nice and down-to-earth and humble she is, which is all true.
3. They Both Have Infamous Scenes
After her scene in There’s Something About Mary, Diaz noticed that she got offered a similar type of role. “Certainly, I received a few, head-on, right after, until it was clear that that was a one-off for me,” she said.
In Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Segel surprises his girlfriend, played by Kristin Bell, by greeting her in the nude. What he didn’t know what that she came to break up with him.
He told the Times, “One of the pitfalls of a romantic comedy is that you know how it’s going to end. The guy and the girl on the poster are going to end up together. I felt like if the main guy showed his [penis], you’re forced to sit back and say, I have no idea what’s going to happen in this movie.”
In a 2014 interview with Vanity Fair, the actor revealed that his mother cried when she saw the opening scene.
4. Segel Buffed Up to Work With Cameron
In the joint interview above with Kimmel, Segel said, “Then it came down to me trying to look like a viable romantic partner for Cameron, which was a lot of work.”
The host noticed Segel’s slender physique. When he asked the actor about it, he responded:
Well the movie is about a couple who’s at the moment is not being intimate with each other. And I didn’t want anyone to look at us at a pairing and say, ‘I know why.’
5. They Have a Lot of Fun
— Sony Pictures UK (@SonyPicturesUK) February 17, 2014
Diaz told People, “There’s such trust [with Jason]. We both had each other’s backs. Our day was, ‘My ass is going to be in your face and your package is going to be in my face!'”
The actress continued:
Sometimes I would stop in the middle of a scene and go, ‘Everybody hold on! Do you realize we’re getting paid to do this?’ We had such a fun time laughing our asses off, having such gratitude that this is our job. We get to be idiots all day long and tell a really sweet story at the same time.
