Courtney Baxter is the 20-year-old actress who has taken on the role as Mora Brody in the Sharknado sequel, Sharknado 2. The college student has acted previously in mainly indie flicks but now she’s going to be sharing the screen with Tara Reid and Ian Ziering!
Will she survive?
Here’s what you need to know:
1. She’s at Pace University in NYC
As part of the class of 2016, Baxter is majoring in film at Pace University in Manhattan, the same city where Sharknado 2 had been shooting. Baxter explained in an interview with Pace about the difficulties of filming in Manhattan:
There were tons of paparazzi and publicity, which was cool and distracting at the same time. We had a lot of pedestrians who wanted to stop and take a video, but where they wanted to take a video, they were in our shot.
2. Baxter Is a Community Activist in Chester, Pennsylvania
On her IMDB profile, it says that Baxter is a community activist in her hometown of Chester, Pennsylvania. The profile describes the town as “crime ravaged.” It states that she has been involved with the community there from a young age. Baxter has been a dance instructor, worked in food banks, and been involved in anti-bullying programs. During high school, she served as Community Service President.
3. She’s Was Miss National Sweetheart in 2012
In 2012, after winning Miss National Sweeheart, she entered Miss Pennsylvania USA but only made it as far as the last 15. She talked about winning the crown of Miss National sweetheart in an interview:
When I think back to nationals week, it is a blur of rehearsals, sequins and the Miami sun! Of course my favorite memory was hearing my name be called as Miss National Sweetheart 2012, but I also loved the backstage time. The dressing rooms were always a crazy and friendly environment. While we all competed for the same title, we still helped each other with hair and makeup, zipped up each others dresses, and reminded each other to pin on our sashes! That is my favorite part about pageants, being competitive but still wanting to help other contestants do their best.
4. Sharknado 2 Is Her Biggest Role to Date
Having mainly starred in indie movies up to this point and had bit parts in shows such as 30 Rock and Gossip Girl, Sharknado 2 will be Baxter’s biggest role to date. Coming up after the ‘nado, will be another indie movie, Chasing Yesterday where she will co-star with The Sopranos’ star Steve Schirripa.
5. She Moved to LA After Elementary School to Pursue Acting When She Was 12
After graduating elementary school, Baxter decided to move to Los Angeles and attend middle school online. That didn’t really work for Baxter, as she said in an interview, by the time high school rolled around, she wanted the real thing.
I decided I wanted to take a step back and go back to real school, because I didn’t want to have any regrets later on and feel like the last time I’d been in real school was elementary school.
After her experiences in high school, it was inevitable that she would go to college.
