‘Return to Amish’ Season 1 Finale: Top 5 Spoilers

On Sunday night’s dramatic episode of Return to Amish, Andrew and Chapel finally tie the knot. The whole event was relatively undramatic– save for a few hiccups on the morning of the wedding.

Here’s what you need to know.

1. Mary Is Fickle About Attending the Wedding

“I know God knows I’m a good person– but we can’t all have what we want.” Early on in the episode, Mary announces to a table full of family that she and Chester aren’t going to attend Chapel and Andrew’s wedding. And her concern that her son will be upset with their decision turns out to be completely valid, as Andrew walks away once he hears the news. Yes– Mary’s definitely upset Andrew has chosen to marry an English girl, but both Chapel and Andrew are shocked and hurt that she won’t put her son’s happiness first and attend the ceremony.

Mary does, however, plan on cooking for the wedding and employs Katie Ann to help her bake chicken and peel some potatoes.

I’m pretty sure everyone’s gonna want a little bit of Schmucker cooking at the wedding.

After mulling it over for a couple days, Mary decides the right thing to do is attend the wedding, and when she approaches Chester about the situation, he completely loses it. He doesn’t like that Mary isn’t obeying the rules, and walks out on a confession to the camera saying he’s through with all of it. He tells Mary:

You know you’re supposed to stand under my arm and do what I say.

2. Jeremiah Goes Amish Again

Jeremiah loses his piercings and English clothing for his old Amish garments. That’s right, folks, he has decided to go Amish again. He shows up to Andrew and Chapel’s wedding with Mary, and everyone’s shocked with his transformation.

“Are you actually going Amish, or is it just for today?”

Jeremiah responds by saying it’s for good. He thinks he needs the Amish work ethic to get back on track with his life.

3. Andrew Almost Gets Married Shirtless (And Suitless?)

The first suit that Andrew tries on the morning of his wedding is far too large, and the second one fits a little better. It seems like all his wardrobe troubles are gone until he realizes he can’t find his dress shirt anywhere. Andrew freaks out and calls Chapel to ask where the shirt is, and she admits she forgot it but can’t help but laugh at the absurdity of the situation. Andrew proceeds to jump into his car and drive to the closest store to pick up a shirt, and we get to view this all on the handy ‘Andy Cam’. Alas, he finally succeeds in getting fully dressed for his wedding… with only 22 minutes until the ceremony starts. Better late than never.

4. Katie Ann Dresses English For The Wedding

Katie Ann calls herself half and half– she says she can’t make up her mind whether or not she identifies more with being English or Amish. She doesn’t know what she’s most comfortable with, but decides on Chapel’s wedding day that she’s going to dress English. She gets her makeup and hair done next to Chapel as Mary vocalizes her confusion with makeup and being pampered.

Later on, though, Mary says that Katie Ann looked gorgeous carrying flowers down the aisle and that she’s going to support her no matter what she decides to do. Who knows, maybe Katie Ann will leave the Amish community for good in the near future.

5. Chester Shows Up To The Wedding Last Minute

Right before the wedding starts, we see Chester walk into the ceremony in time for Chapel to walk down the aisle. He decides to attend last minute because he knows how much it means to his family, and especially to Mary. Andrew is ecstatic that he has the opportunity to be married in front of his whole family, and promises he will do whatever it takes to keep Chapel and her children healthy and happy.
