Robert Irvine, ‘Restaurant Impossible': 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Chef Robert Irvine is one of the most entertaining and talented chefs on television. Read on for the facts on the new season of Restaurant Impossible, Irvine’s checkered past, and why we love to watch him in action.

1. The Season 9 Premiere of Restaurant Impossible Begins Tonight

Tonight is the season 9 premiere of Restaurant Impossible, which stars Irvine. On the premiere episode, the owners of Fork Diner in Georgia suffer a failing restaurant as well as a damaged friendship. Tune in at 10:00 p.m. EST on the Food Network.

2. Unfortunately, He’s Known for Lying About His Background

Mi Cuisine reports this:

Over on Serious Eats the story is unfolding. Chef Robert Irvine of “Dinner: Impossible!” on the Food Network is apparently a fraud. A copy of his book I have here, an autobiography titled “Mission: Cook!”, is apparently full of lies and fabricated truths about his life, his training, and who knows what else.

Epicurious further reported:

A recent article in the St. Petersburg Times has exposed that much of his resume including cooking at the White House, knighthood, a university degree and making Lady Diana’s wedding cake are likely to have been fabricated … The fallout?
Serious Eats reports that he was yanked from the yanked from the South Beach Wine & Food Festival line up. The St Petersburg Times reports his line of cookware has disappeared from the Home Shopping Network. The Food Network has pulled his bio. His bio has been pulled from his own website.

While many don’t agree with Irvine’s actions, others have different views saying, “How many people fudge their resumes?” In a written statement, Irvine admitted his wrong-doing:

I was wrong to exaggerate in statements related to my experiences … [with] the Royal Family. I am truly sorry for misleading people and misstating the facts.

You have to give the guy credit for at least owning up to what he did, right?

3. WWE Star Gail Kim Is His Wife

Irvine isn’t the only famous one in the relationship. Wikipedia writes:

Irvine married former WWE and current TNA star Gail Kim on 10 May 2012.[33] The couple met on the set of Dinner: Impossible, when he came to serve VIPs for WWE’s Summerslam. He has two daughters, Annalise and Talia, from his first marriage.

On August 18, 2012, the couple’s wedding ceremony was documented on an episode of Irvine’s Restaurant: Impossible show.

When I was 15 I joined the British Royal Navy and spent the following 10 years touring Europe aboard various naval ships including Her Majesty’s Royal Yacht Britannia. Although my desire to be a cook started a few years before that—home economics was a great way to meet girls—it was during my time in the Royal Navy that I began to explore and develop my culinary skills … After the Royal Navy I continued to expand my culinary skills working in hotels, casinos and aboard cruise ships.

Wikipedia further reports:

Having completed culinary training, Robert served aboard Her Majesty’s Royal Yacht Britannia. Upon completion of his 10-year tour of duty, Irvine performed consultant work in Bali, Jakarta, and Ho Chi Minh City before becoming Executive Chef aboard numerous cruise ships, culminating with the five-star MS Crystal Harmony.
