Jyoti Amge is the newest cast member announced for season 4 of American Horror Story, subtitled Freak Show. Ryan Murphy announced the addition of Amge yesterday in a tweet.
1. She is 24.7″ Tall
Jyoti Amge was born on December 16, 1993 in Nagpur, India. She is 20-years-old.
At birth, she was diagnosed with a rare growth anomaly called achondroplasia.
a common cause of dwarfism. It occurs as a sporadic mutation in approximately 80% of cases (associated with advanced paternal age) or may be inherited as an autosomal dominant genetic disorder.
The average adult height for people with achondroplasia is 52 inches for males and 48 inches for females, which makes Amge’s case so unique.
2. She is Currently the Smallest Woman in the World
On December 16, 2011, Amge’s 18th birthday, Guinness Book of Records officially declared her the world’s smallest woman at 2 feet 6 inches tall.
3. She’s Appeared on Television in India
Amge is no stranger to television.
Before being cast in American Horror Story, she was a participant on the Indian game show Bigg Boss, a reality series similar to Big Brother.
She was also the subject of a 2009 documentary called Body Shock: Two Foot High Teen.
4. She has Met the World’s Smallest Man
Amge is the world’s smallest woman, and in 2012 she met the world’s shortest man, Chandra Bahadur Dangi. Dangi is 1 foot ten inches tall, 74 years old, and resides in Nepal.
The pair was brought together for a photo shoot by Guinness World Records in 2013.
5. She Joins a Star-Studded Cast
Amge will be sharing the small screen with acting royalty.
Season four of the series, subtitled Freak Show, is set in Jupiter, Fla., in the 1950s, with Jessica Lange in the lead role. The Emmy winner will portray a German expat managing one of the last remaining freak shows in the country.
The cast also includes Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Frances Conroy, Sarah Paulson, Emma Roberts, Gabourey Sidib, Evan Peters, John Carroll Lynch, and Finn Wittrock.
