Bill & Sookie, ‘True Blood’: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

With True Blood coming to a close comes the end of the romance between Bill and Sookie. Do they end up together? Does Bill die? Read on for the details on their relationship and how they got to where they are at the end of the series …

1. Bill Once Allowed Sookie to Be Almost Beaten to Death

If you recall, Bill had once allowed Sookie to be nearly beaten to death so that he could bind her to him with his blood. This isn’t all, though. Several times, Bill drank Sookie’s blood and he even raped her. He also killed her Uncle Bartlett, even though it was because of Bartlett’s sexual abuse of Sookie. Let’s just say that Bill and Sookie have definitely had a rocky relationship. Have a look at a tender moment between the two in the above clip from season 2.

2. Their Relationship Was Based on a Lie

In case you forgot, Bill lied to Sookie for several seasons. According to The Bustle:

He only pretended to be in love with Sookie to spy on her for the Queen of Mississippi … This means that Bill and Sookie’s entire relationship is a lie. He didn’t walk into that bar by accident. He was sent there by Sophie-Anne to seduce the telepathic waitress and gain her trust so the Queen could find out more about what gave Sookie her unusual powers. Oh sure, supposedly Bill truly fell in love with her at some point during that charade, but the fact remains that he didn’t tell her the truth for three whole seasons, and not until he had no other choice.

Whatever the case, we all want Bill and Sookie to end up together anyway.

3. Bill Has Given Himself a Death Sentence for Sookie

Bill is dying of the Hep V virus and when he’s presented with the cure, he refuses to take it. Sookie and Jessica are furious and hurt by his decision, but Bill reveals that he wants to die for the good of Sookie. Hollywood Take writes:

Eric later went to Bill to try to convince him to live for Sookie, but Bill explained how he’s bad for Sookie and how “it’s her light that pulls us in just as she is pulled to our darkness.” He told Eric about his dream where Sookie “gave birth to death” and Eric suddenly understood Bill’s reasoning.

4. Sookie Was First Attracted to Bill Because She Couldn’t Read His Mind

Sookie came onto True Blood as a telepath and waitress. She meets and falls in love with vampire Bill because she’s intrigued by him. Her attraction to him stems greatly from the fact that she can’t read his mind. Sookie ends up saving Bill from Denise and Mack Rattray who intend to drain their victim’s blood for use as a narcotic. Then, Sookie is attacked by the Rattrays and Bill saves her … and the rest is history.

5. The Executive Producer Hints that They’ll Get Together in the End

While Exectuive Producer Buckner says that Sookie and Bill might get together in the finale, Stephen Moyer, who plays Bill, told TV Line:

I don’t know whether they can be, given everything that’s happened between them. What Bill did was open up something inside her that she had never had before. He was the key to a new world for her. And maybe that’s all he was supposed to be — a window into that world.
