Christian Stoinev and his dog Scooby are certainly the most adorable contenders on America’s Got Talent this season. Read on for all the facts …
1. Stoinev Was the Youngest in the Big Apple Circus
At the age of 13, Stoinev was the youngest member of the Big Apple Circus. As a circus performer from 1999 to 2009, PBS reports that:
Christian went to school at the One Ring School House that travels with the Big Apple Circus. Born into the big top life, Christian Atayde Stoinev is the son of Big Apple Circus Performance Director Ivan Stoinev and Customer Service Manager Maritza Atayde. In 1977, Stoinev debuted his first act: an unsupported ladder-balancing act that he performed with his father. Stoinev began performing with the Big Apple Circus as an acrobat in 2001, and he has won several prestigious international awards for his handstand and acrobatic breakdance acts.
Though Stoinev was a dedicated circus performer, he was also determined to get an education in journalism, which he did. As far as the hardest part about being in the circus, Stoinev says:
I believe that the most physically demanding act in the Big Apple Circus in the 2008-2009 season was probably the Russian barre because of the amount of danger involved. Their lives are at risk every performance, and being physically prepared is crucial.
2. He Was the Opening Act for Britney Spears
Because Stoinev has been a prominent circus performer for many years, it only made sense that he be the opening act for Britney Spears’ “Circus” tour.
3. Scooby And Stoinev Currently Work for the NBA
Currently, Stoinev and Scooby work for the NBA and his bio gives details on their act:
Christian’s main act with his partner Scooby is currently thriving within the National Basketball Association as halftime entertainment. In their first season performing for the NBA, they have already performed for the New York Knicks, Indiana Pacers, and Chicago Bulls, among others. As the 2013-14 NBA season continues, Christian hopes to continue succeeding within the NBA confines while also expanding his worldwide experiences as a performer.
4. This Is Stoinev’s Second Season on the Show
Stoinev is actually a second-time contestant, previously appearing on season 2 with dog Scooby. However, Scooby was injured and the two couldn’t continue to compete together, resulting in Stoinev’s being sent home. AGT Wikipedia writes:
Christian Atayde Stoinev was sorted into the “Variety” category during the Vegas Round. His performance in Episode 205 consisted of a hand-balancing routine. Christian’s dog could not be part of the act this time since it got injured a few days earlier. His audition was not strong enough for the judges to send him to the Top 35 shortlist, eliminating him from the competition along with The Great Throwdini.
