Sara Murphy is tonight’s Extreme Weight Loss champion. Read on for the facts on Murphy as she takes on the biggest journey of her life.
1. Murphy Is the First Little Person to Participate on EWL
— Chris Powell (@RealChrisPowell) August 11, 2014
Sara Murphy is 4 foot 4 inches tall and is the first little person to appear on Extreme Weight Loss as a participant. While working out over the past year, Murphy has struggled with maintaining a good workout ethic, especially when she was delivered the news that her dwarfism condition gives her an extra slow metabolism. She posted the following message on her Facebook page:
I will be the first to admit this. Some days it is very hard to get going on a workout but when I do, I feel so much better. After a busy couple of days and not having a lot of time, I decided to do 2 crossfit workouts today! 300 squats total!
Apparently, she likes to imagine Maksim Chmerkovskiy right behind her when she’s working out and that motivates her to power through …
2. She’s Been Teased And Bullied Her Whole Life
Because of her size, both her height and weight, Murphy has been teased almost her whole life … by classmates, by her sister, and even by nuns when she was a nun herself. She hopes to overcome her emotional baggage and shed the weight. Daily Entertainment News writes:
About a year ago, Murphy got the surprise of a lifetime! She appeared on Lifestyles on Local 7, and EXTREME WEIGHT LOSS host Christ Powell walked in and invited her to be featured on the ABC show. So for the past year Sara has been fighting to lose weight right in the national spotlight.
3. Carb Cycling 101 Is the Program Murphy Has Been On This Past Year
— Heidi Powell (@RealHeidiPowell) August 11, 2014
Murphy reported that Carb Cycling 101, trainer Heidi Powell’s program, is the workout plan she’s been on for the past year. Heidi Powell gives a description on what Carb Cycling is exactly:
Carb cycling is an eating plan with alternating high-carb and low-carb days. It’s that simple. It also has built-in reward days or reward meals (depending on the plan you’re following), so you can still eat your favorite foods on a regular basis. Sounds pretty much perfect, right? You can eat healthy foods, enjoy foods you love, and still lose weight.
4. An Extreme Weight Loss Record Gets Broken Tonight
According to trainer Chris Powell, Sara Murphy will break an EWL record on tonight’s show. Murphy’s fitness goals were to run a marathon in November and to back squat double her weight by the end of the year, but she couldn’t have imagined she’d break an EWL record. Despite her obstacles with her slow metabolism, Murphy defied all odds and lost the highest percentage of weight ever on EWL at any stage.

— Rocco DiSpirito (@roccodispirito) August 12, 2014
