Gregg Leakes is real estate investor, a consultant, and most importantly, the husband of Real Housewives of Atlanta star Nene Leakes. Gregg has five children from a previous relationship prior to meeting wife Nene: twins Damien and Daryl, 34, Katrina, 27, Dexter 25, and Denton, 21. He was born in Brooklyn, made his way down to Atlanta and amassed his wealth in real estate dealings over the last two decades in the business. Read on for the facts on Gregg, his criminal record, and why viewers love to watch him and his firecracker wife Nene.

1. Prior to Their Divorce, Gregg Accidentally Aired Out his Problems With Nene on the Radio

While Nene and her husband Gregg were going through problems on the show, Nene felt that Gregg wasn’t being very supportive. Gregg opened up to a friend on the phone, claiming he didn’t realize that his “friend” was playing the whole thing on the radio for the world to hear. Nene felt that Gregg “did her wrong” and followed through with a divorce, kicking Gregg out of the house. The two later reconciled and re-married with their own wedding special on Bravo.

2. Gregg’s Kids Have Had a Rocky Relationship With Nene

We’ve seen Nene’s relationship with Gregg’s children on reality TV as being not so great and Gregg sat down with them all to try to work things out. Their issues seemed to have been smoothed over prior to Gregg remarrying Nene, but when he and Nene were going through their divorce, Gregg’s son Damian had a lot to say. He told Radar that his father kicked his kids out once Gregg met Nene, who was working as a stripper:

Once he met her he kicked us out of the house, the young siblings went to my mom’s, and he just ran off to start a whole new life literally in front of our faces. She (NeNe) wants to keep the house and move on with her life. They’re trying to portray it as ‘we’re not getting divorced’ and they’re trying to work it out right now, but that’s not the case. At the time when the show started was when we all started really bumping heads with NeNe and Greg.

In the past, Nene has stated:

I feel like his kids have always been against me … It feels like they feel like I had something to do with Greg and their mom’s break-up … It’s just so weird that Gregg never tried to bring us together.

3. Nene’s Half-Sister Kendle Kenya Sherman Has Put the Couple On Blast

Bossip reports that Nene’s half-sister Kendle Kenya Sherman revealed that Nene and Gregg first got together when Gregg was supposedly married to another woman. Sherman stated:

Well, I was invited to the first wedding, I just wasn’t in the first wedding. No [I didn’t approve of the first wedding] because Gregg was a married man. She let the world know. It is what it is. Everybody knows that. [I wasn’t invited to the second wedding] because right now, we don’t even have a relationship. Right now we don’t communicate with each other.

Gregg’s son Damian has stated that his father met Nene at a gentleman’s club.

In an interview with Radar Online, Nene Leakes had opened up about her husband and why she followed through with divorcing him, leading readers to believe that Gregg may have had a wandering eye.

It hurt me to file for divorce, but I had to see it through. I let him know you’re going to be my husband and you’re not going to be somebody else’s anything, but if you plan to be somebody else’s anything, then we can’t be together. Gregg needed to feel what it was like without me. I wanted to let him see if the grass was really greener on the other side. He brought his ass back, because the grass is very brown over there.
