WWE WrestleMania 31 Matchups Preview: 2nd Annual Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal

The Build Up

WrestleMania 31

At WrestleMania 30, Cesaro did the unthinkable – he picked up 425-pound Big Show and tossed him over the top rope to win the 1st ever Andre the Giant Battle Royal. Tons of fans (us included) thought this major win would take the Swiss strongman to a higher place on the WWE totem pole. Yeah…that didn’t exactly happen. Blame it on bad booking or Cesaro’s lack of connection with the audience due to his accent if your must (we choose the 1st option and that horrible theme song played a part in his fall down the card). It still sucks to see Cesaro not prospering a bit more after being the 1st man to win the Andre the Giant Battle Royal trophy. This year’s installment of the battle royal features some Superstars who could use the win and the push to the top they deserve – Curtis Axel, Ryback, Damien Mizdow and the potential winner of the NXT WrestleMania Axxess Tournament.

How The Match Will Unfold

Since the WWE’s resident big men will be present (Big Show, Kane and Mark Henry), they’ll clean house when it comes to eliminating the less important participants. But we think a surprise last minute entrant into this battle royal will have a big hand in pushing these big men over the top rope. SHEAMUS! It’s about time he made his grand return and get one of the biggest wins of his career. Along with Sheamus, we see Ryback also making his beastly strength known as he clears the ring just as much as Sheamus. The originator of “AxelMania” will go wild and have a great showing as well. And you should all expect to see Damien Mizdow finally get one up on The Miz by throwing him over the top rope. And whoever ends up entering the match as a result of winning the NXT WrestleMania Axxess Tournament will also look great here. At the end of this bout though, Sheamus will reign supreme.

What Happens in the Future

Andre the Giant Battle Royal Trophy

The grand return of Sheamus combined with his big win will push him into contention with the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion as the summer unfolds. We think WWE knows that Sheamus’ stale babyface act won’t endear him to the crowd once he shows off his new trophy, so we see him switching gears and becoming a heel. We’re bigger fans of “kick grown men in the face for the hell of it” Sheamus, so we see him taking this battle royal win and doing great things with it. Heel Sheamus will go at Roman Reigns for an intense mini-feud during the warmer months of 2015.
