‘Doctor Who’ Spoilers Season 9: Episode 1

Get ready for a brand-new season of time travel, adventure and a reappearance from some age-old enemies, Whovians.

The ninth season of Doctor Who premieres on Saturday night, with a Steven Moffat-penned episode titled “The Magician’s Apprentice,” and fans of the long-running sci-fi hit should be ready for a whirlwind of action from the very first whoosh of the TARDIS.

Saturday night’s season premiere finds Clara (Jenna Coleman) searching for the Doctor (Peter Capaldi) as, according to the official BBC release, “the skies of Earth are frozen by a mysterious alien force.” Clara will enlist the help of Missy (Michele Gomez) to help track down the Doctor and the unlikely pair will see their relationship shift throughout the episode.

While the Doctor won’t be seen in the early-goings of Saturday night’s episode, the BBC did release a brand-new prologue clip before the premiere, showing what the Time Lord has been up to. Check out the Doctor in conversation with an unknown character, discussing a future confrontation with an enemy he’s “known a long time.”

Jemma Redgrave is also expected to reprise her role as Kate Lethbridge-Stewart in “The Magician’s Apprentice,” the first of four scheduled two-parters in season nine. Oh, and don’t forget. Capaldi also let out one fairly big spoiler earlier this year when he teased the return of the Daleks, “with a twist,” in the premiere.

Are the Daleks, twisted or otherwise, the Doctor’s old enemy alluded to in the prologue or are they just a battle along a season-long road of adventures? That’s still under wraps. For now.

Doctor Who premieres on BBC America at 9 p.m. ET on Saturday night.
