There are constantly rumors running wild about Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani’s relationship. First they’re engaged, then they’re having a baby and other times, there are reports that they’re married. Shelton and Stefani are none of these things. However, their divorces did bring them both together. Though they had been working together on The Voice as friends, spending time together made them discover something special. Stefani had split from longtime husband Gavin Rossdale while Shelton was divorcing wife Miranda Lambert and the two bonded over their pain. Shelton told Katie Cook of CMT’s Hot 20 Countdown that:
It’s not something anybody could’ve seen coming besides God, I guess, because it doesn’t look like it would make sense. All I can tell you is that it does. It just makes the most perfect sense for us and where we’re at in our lives … All of a sudden this thing just happened because of some things that we were going through, and it saved my life. Period.
Shelton also confessed:
At the time, when you go through what I went through with my divorce, you never know when it’s the right time to step out and say I’ve started seeing someone. But what I found out, because it wasn’t someone from my hometown, it was Gwen Stefani that I was beginning to have this relationship with. There was no hiding it. If I glance her way, it’s the cover of magazines. If I could have kept my personal life private, I would have. Since I can’t, I might as well let people in on the truth … Of all the people, she was the last person I expected to step out of the crowd and be the one to have my back, and be there and be the shoulder and be the one to fight that fight with me, getting back on my feet, and out of nowhere, there she was.
Though Stefani was not on this season of The Voice, she did return to the show as an adviser on her boyfriend’s team. She also came back to perform during one of the episodes. Now, Shelton and Stefani have a song together titled “Go Ahead and Break My Heart”, which is off Shelton’s new album, “If I’m Honest.” Recently, the couple performed the ballad on The Voice and now are singing the duet at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards. So, how did this song come about? Stefani revealed on Chelsea Handler’s show Chelsea:
The story is that he had written this song and sent it to me on my phone. He’s like, ‘I wrote this song.’ And I was like, Whoa, what if I don’t like it? Huge turnoff! I listened to it and thought, Oh, my God, I love this. He said, ‘Write the rest of it.
Us Weekly reports that Shelton added:
[Songwriter] Craig Wiseman was given the task to write a song for me about what had happened to me in my personal life and when I first started seeing Gwen, it’s all in there. The only difference is we didn’t actually meet in a bar.
As for any baby rumors, the only thing close to that for the couple is when Stefani posted a sonogram on her Instagram as an April Fools’ Day joke.
