Who Won ‘The Voice’ 2016 Last Night?

Last night was the finale of The Voice 2016 for season 10 and it was marked by being the first season to ever have a female coach win. Alisan Porter from Christina Aguilera’s team took the win, which is a moment Aguilera has longed for over the past 10 seasons. Even when she hasn’t been on the show for some of the past seasons, she has been very vocal about wanting a female coach to win.

On Monday’s show, Aguilera gushed over Porter, telling her:

If anybody deserves to take the cake and be the winner of The Voice, it’s you, Alisan. Thank you so much for trusting me. You’re an inspiration for everybody and anybody that literally has a dream and just wants a second chance. You’re the definition of The Voice.

Now Aguilera leaves the show with her head held high. And, what’s even better is that Porter’s message she’s wanted to deliver this entire season is that even if you’re a wife and mother, you can live out your dreams. Porter has successfully realized her dreams and she told People:

I’m proud of the season. I think it was such a strong season of incredible performances. I’m just grateful to be a part of it. The ride doesn’t end here. I’m going to keep going and making as much music as humanly possible.

In addition to performing with some of her fellow contestants from the season, Porter also had the opportunity to sing on stage with country star Jennifer Nettles tonight. The finale was filled with celebrity guest performers including Zayn Malik, Ariana Grande, Little Big Town, and several others.

Season 11 premieres this coming September 2016 with two new judges in the mix. Aguilera and Pharrell Williams have exited the show to make room for two female coaches – Miley Cyrus and Alicia Keys. This will be the first time that more than one female coach will be on the panel.
