Dave Franco’s newest film, Nerve, was recently released. Co-starring him and Emma Roberts, the film is already off to a promising start, making $1.1 million on Tuesday night. Should the film become a big hit with young audiences, like the studio anticipates and hopes, Dave Franco could establish himself as one of the next big movie stars, on par with what his brother, James, has been.

In addition to being a hugely successful actor, Franco is also in a long-term relationship with another successful actor, Alison Brie. Brie has been busy with her own work as well; BoJack Horseman’s third season debuted on Netflix last Friday, and Brie is in the main cast of that show. They’re a very successful Hollywood couple, but unlike other celebrity couples have kept their relationship relatively private. Still, from what has been seen it’s a strong, loving relationship.

Here’s what you need to know.

1. They Began Dating in 2012 and Were Discovered By Paparazzi at a Grocery Store

As mentioned earlier, Brie and Franco are a private couple, never courting paparazzi or extra attention. So when they were first discovered by paparazzi, it was not during some lavish event or vacation. Instead, the pair was seen holding hands together as they went grocery shopping. At the time, Brie was still on television shows like Community and Mad Men, while Franco had recently appeared in 21 Jump Street.

This was their first time publicly photographed as a couple, but they weren’t that new of a couple. A source told Us Weekly that, at the time of the photograph, Brie and Franco has been dating “at least five or six months.”

2. They Got Engaged in 2015

Brie and Franco’s relationship continued unabated after being discovered by the public, going quite well. So well, in fact, that a little over 3 years later, the couple got engaged. The engagement was discovered in August of 2015 after Brie’s noticeable engagement ring was worn at the premiere for her movie, Sleeping With Other People. One of Brie’s representatives, after E! Online noticed, confirmed to the publication that she and Franco had gotten engaged.

Brie’s engagement ring was a beauty, designed by Irene Neuwirth. The ring was described as a “one-of-a-kind rose gold ring set with a rose-cut diamond and a diamond pave.”

3. They Have Appeared Together in Internet Videos and Television Shows

Though Brie and Franco are private people, they’ve worked together and are not afraid of being together and poking fun at one another in public. In 2013, the couple played themselves in a sketch for Funny or Die called Dream Girl. The sketch, about Brie discovering what Franco wants in a dream woman, was a quick smash online. Currently the video has over 1.7 million views on the Funny or Die website, as well as more than 1 million views on YouTube.

In addition to sketches, the couple has appeared together on television shows as well. Most recently, Dave Franco appeared on the season 3 BoJack Horseman episode “Love And/Or Marriage.” In it, he played a celebrity who interacted with Brie’s character, Diane.

4. Alison Called Dave “The Sweetest Man I Know” and Said She Hadn’t Considered Getting Married Before Him

It isn’t too often that the couple talks about each other, but when they do, the words are glowing, singing the praises of each other. Brie has been particularly effusive in her praise of Franco. When talking to People about her engagement, she referred to him as “wonderful” and “just the sweetest man I know. And he’s so funny and incredible in every way.”

In a feature in the New York Post, Brie talked about how being with Franco changed her tune on the idea of getting married. A combination of the memory of her parents’ divorce and her idea of what a career in acting entailed had her assuming marriage simply wasn’t in the cards for her, until Franco came along.

I was just like, ‘Well, that’s not my life path, because I’m choosing this crazy lifestyle.’ And then, you know, I fell in love. So, blah blah blah, amazing. Acting is fulfilling, but it’s also not the only thing.

5. Dave Franco Has Hinted That the Couple Might Decide to Elope

Franco and Brie are a big-time celebrity couple, but don’t anticipate a huge wedding for them. At the premiere for Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, Franco was asked by E! Online about the process of planning a wedding. In addition to saying he wasn’t that interested in a large wedding, Franco said of the wedding planning, “We keep kinda paring it down—to the point we might elope.”
