WATCH: Tim Kaine Plays Harmonica on ‘Late Show With Stephen Colbert’

Virginia Senator Tim Kaine stopped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Thursday night to introduce himself to more viewers. Kaine is Hillary Clinton‘s running mate and Kaine discussed what it was like to get that call from the former Secretary of State.

Kaine, who said that he had never been on a talkshow like this before, said that he only learned he would definitely be Clinton’s VP pick about 12 minutes before the rest of the world knew.

“Hillary Clinton called me about 7:32 p.m. Friday, July 22 – not that it was a memorable moment,” he joked. “And we talked and the last thing I said to her… She said, ‘Well, you’re about to get kidnapped and I got a team about a mile away to get you.’ I said, ‘How much time do I have before the press knows because I want to go tell my wife in person rather than call her if I can.’ She said, ‘I think you’ve got 15 minutes.'”

VEEP star Tony Hale was also a guest on Thursday, so Hale played his Gary Walsh character in the cold open.

Kaine also starred in a sketch that made fun of him and Late Show post-production supervisor Mark Spada, who looks just like him.

Lastly, Kaine had to take out his harmonica to play with Jon Batiste and Stay Human. Kaine’s love of the harmonica is well known. Here’s a video from The New York Times in which Kaine explains why he picked up the instrument.
