Gotham was once supposed to be a police procedural set in Batman's hometown, before Bruce Wayne became Batman. However, with the show's third season about to debut, it's clear that it has become much more than that. Showrunner Bruno Heller (The Mentalist) and his team have deconstructed just about every aspect of the Batman mythology and rebuilt it on their own terms, ignoring longstanding ideas about how the World's Greatest Detective came to be. Gotham: Mad City, as the third season has been titled, will move even further away from what we are familiar with. Who knew that Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) was a bounty hunter before he became police commissioner?
Mad City takes place six months after season two ended and finds Gordon coming back to the city as a bounty hunter. He also hopes to win back the heart of Dr. Leslie Thompkins (Morena Baccarin).
