Tonight was the first elimination from season 23 of Dancing With the Stars, with a special results show airing on ABC. Throughout the episode, recaps and behind-the-scenes footage of each couple’s performances were shown, along with a big dance number delivered by the pro dancers. So, which contestant was sent home first this season? The contestant eliminated was … Jake T. Austin.

The first two couples announced as being safe tonight were Laurie Hernandez with Val Chmerkovskiy and Rick Perry with Emma Slater. Perry was a surprise as he’s been at the bottom of the leader board.

After a short break, Marilu and Derek Hough were announced as being safe as well, followed by the first couple in jeopardy – Maureen McCormick and Artem Chigvintsev.

Contestant Babyface was then revealed to be safe, followed by Ryan Lochte and Cheryl Burke, who were in jeopardy.

Up next was a performance by Charlie Puth and Daya, featuring a dance routine performed by Val Chmerkovskiy and Sharna Burgess.

Vanilla Ice with Witney Carson, athlete Calvin Johnson with Lindsay Arnold and James Hinchcliffe with Sharna Burgess were safe, while Jake T. Austin was announced as being in jeopardy. This meant that Jake T. Austin, Ryan Lochte and Maureen McCormick were all on the chopping block tonight. Some of tonight’s lower votes were a surprise to audience members as well as the judges, but it’s America’s choice, right?

More performances continued by the pro dancers, followed by the premiere of a new country music video called “Forever Country”, celebrating artists ranging from Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton to Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley. And, Gavin DeGraw returned to the DWTS stage once again to perform his song “She Sets the City On Fire.”

Finally, towards the end of the show, Amber Rose and Maksim Chmerkovskiy were announced as being in jeopardy while Jana Kramer and Terra Jole were revealed to be moving on in the competition.

Out of all the contestants in jeopardy, Maureen McCormick and Amber Rose were first announced as being safe from elimination, which left Jake T. Austin and Ryan Lochte. In the end, only one was sent home.
