According to Stanford Children's Health, trisomy 13 gives a child a number of defects, including intellectual problems with nearly every organ in the body affected. The website adds that most babies diagnosed with the condition die by the age of 1. Trisomy 13 also goes by the name Patau syndrome, named after Dr. Klaus Patau, who first discovered it.
