DWTS pro Sharna Burgess has been teamed up with race car driver James Hinchcliffe for this season’s competition on Dancing With the Stars. The duo has come a long way and is considered one of the front-running teams on the show for season 23. Unfortunately, last week, Burgess suffered an injury to her knee while rehearsing for the show. And, when she performed with Hinchcliffe, she was clearly in pain. Since the episode aired, Burgess has been told that she needs to stop dancing for 3-6 weeks and there’s only about 4 weeks left in the competition. In the meantime, pro dancer Jenna Johnson will step in for Burgess. Get the full, first-hand rundown of Burgess’ injury status in the below video clip. (Instagram/SharnaBurgess)
Burgess is visibly upset, having to leave her partner with another dancer, but has raved about Johnson, stating:
Jenna is an amazing dancer and teacher. I’m so glad she was able to become a pro this season and I know James is in good hands with her.
This is Jenna Johnson’s first season as a full-time cast member with a celebrity partner. She was eliminated earlier in the season as she was dancing opposite actor Jake T. Austin. We would assume that Burgess will still have her hand in some of the choreography for Hinchcliffe’s routines, but she certainly won’t be able to perform. In reference to Jenna Johnson subbing in for Burgess, a source has told People:
It’s unclear if that will continue to be the case in the weeks to come if they make it through tonight’s elimination.
Prior to getting an MRI of her knee this past Tuesday, Sharna Burgess told People that:
When I fell, it was pure panic. I’ve had an ACL reconstruction on that very same knee, so I was scared to death. In that split moment, you think 1,000 things, but I got up and tried to figure it out. They realized there’s no tear, there’s no major swelling.
