Another holiday is here, which means that there is another Peanuts special to go with it. On Wednesday, November 23, ABC is airing A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving once again. Read on for a preview of the beloved special and to find out what time it is on.
A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving debuted on November 20, 1973 on CBS. In 2001, the Peanuts specials moved to ABC, which has aired the special every year since. In 1974, Peanuts creator Charles M. Schulz won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Children’s Programming. Producers Lee Mendelson and Bill Melendez were also nominated for Outstanding Children’s Special.
The half-hour episode concerns Charlie Brown’s Thanksgiving going awry when Peppermint Patty and her friends announce their plans to go to his house. Linus, Snoopy, Woodstuck and the Blockhead have to whip up a second Thanksgiving to serve all of their friends.
The special is a part of the same series as the classic It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. They were directed by the late Bill Melendez, whose studio made every Peanuts special until 2006. Melendez, who died in 2008, was an animator who worked with Walt Disney and on Warner Bros. cartoons before animating commercials and working on Peanuts. A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving was co-directed by Phil Roman.
After Thanksgiving, ABC will air “The Mayflower Voyages,” an episode of the eight-episode miniseries This Is America, Charlie Brown.
