In last week's episode, The Room Where It Happens, an unnamed man enters the Emergency Room after a car accident. Meredith and Owen scrub in and argue about what to do to save the patient. Webber takes control, and chastises them for treating the man like "a sack of organs on a table". He suggests they try something new-- give the patient a name and backstory. Owen's mind drifts to thoughts of his sister, while Dr. Edwards starts thinking about herself as a young girl. Her revelation leads her to deduce the man on the operating table has an autoimmune disease, just like she did. (ABC/Richard Cartwright)
