Netflix’s official synopsis of the series reads:

Set nearly a decade after the finale of the original series, this revival follows Lorelai, Rory and Emily Gilmore through four seasons of change.

Over the course of the mini-series, minus actor Edward Hermann who passed away in 2014, all of the men in Rory Gilmore’s life will return – Logan, Jess and Dean. And, all of the delightfully odd characters from the original television series are back as well. Even actress Melissa McCarthy has come back.

When it comes to the overall storyline, show-runner Amy Sherman-Pallidino told Entertainment Weekly, that Grandpa Richard Gilmore’s death will carry throughout the series.

Actress Kelly Bishop, who plays Richard’s wife Emily, recalled found memories of having Hermann on set, telling EW:

It’s sad without my darling Edward Herrmann. We used to do our crossword puzzle together in the makeup trailer. If we had a short day and were feeling festive or belligerent, we’d go across the street and have a martini together.

Scott Patterson, who plays Luke Danes on the show, added:

[Herrmann’s death] left a big void, but Amy honored it beautifully. He’s throughout … these stories. It’s a wonderful homage to him as a person and to his character as well. It’s nice to have him around.

As for what to expect from the mini-series revival in terms of where the characters are in their lives on the show, Palladino told USA Today:

It had been enough time that all the stories seemed clear, where they would be, what they would be grappling with. If we had done it earlier, it might have been too soon.

Actress Lauren Graham also stated:

It’s been exactly like the old show and then completely new and different. Just a little grown up … That wonderful, fun language that’s so playful. We get to play a million different little characters within the character. It’s just been an overwhelmingly happy experience. I have been weirdly and inappropriately emotional the whole time.

So, now that you know what to expect and what time the show will be released, get ready for a year of the Gilmore Girls. And, though the series is set to be released at 3:00 a.m., Netflix has been known to surprise viewers with slightly early releases. So, you never know if it could come out a couple hours earlier. But, most likely, the show will premiere as scheduled.
