WATCH: ‘Rogue One’s’ Saw Gerrera Makes ‘Star Wars Rebels’ Debut

After a Toys R Us poster inadvertently let the cat out of the bag, Disney and Lucasfilm formally announced that we haven’t seen the last of Saw Gerrera. Forest Whitaker’s character in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be seen in the next episode of Star Wars Rebels.

The news was spoiled by a poster that appeared in a Toys R Us store over the weekend and shared on Twitter. The poster shows Gerrera, with the text, “Save the Rebellion, Save the Dream.” In the above clip, we get to see some of the scenes depicted on the poster.

On December 20, Lucasfilm confirmed that we will see the Partisan’s leader in Rebels with a preview of the next episode, the two-part “Ghosts of Geonosis.” That means that Ezra Bridger, Kanan Jarrus and the other members of Phoenix Squadron don’t have to go to Jedha to meet him.

The preview also confirms that Whitaker returned to voice Gerrera. The character first appeared in The Clone Wars and was voiced by Andrew Kishino. He fought alongside the Republic during the Battle of Onderon and was trained by the Jedi, who could not afford to send a full army of Clones to help. In Rogue One, we see that Guerrea has been leading a group called the Partisans and uses more extreme, violent tactics compared to the Rebel Alliance to stop the Empire.

“Forest really wanted to know a lot about the character,” Rebels executive producer Dave Filoni told Entertainment Weekly. “He watched The Clone Wars episodes with his character and I had some detail for him about things George [Lucas] and I discussed. It gave him more time to develop the character as far as, ‘How did he get there?”

The first part of “Ghosts of Geonosis” airs on Saturday, January 7 at 8:30 p.m. ET on Disney XD.
