Rogue One: A Star Wars Story isn't the only way to see Felicity Jones on the big screen this weekend. She also has a supporting role in Spanish director J.A. Bayona's A Monster Calls, the film adaptation of Patrick Ness' acclaimed 2011 novel. Like the book, Bayona's film is also earning acclaim, with an 87 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes already. The film had a limited run before the New Year to qualify for the Oscars.
A Monster Calls
is about Conor O'Malley (Lewis MacDougall), a young boy whose mother (Jones) has been diagnosed with a terminal illness. His days at school are also difficult because he faces a bully (James Melville) each day. He finds an escape in the stories told by a "monster" (Liam Neeson), who appears in the form of a yew tree.
Jones is an Oscar-nominated actress thanks to her performance as Stephen Hawking's ex-wife in The Theory of Everything
. She played Jyn Erso in Rogue One
and was seen alongside Tom Hanks in Inferno
to meet the other members of A Monster Calls
