Law & Order: SVU finally returns after a long break over the holiday season. Lieutenant Olivia Benson and the rest of the Special Victims Unit are on the case of a stalker in “Next Chapter.” The new episode airs on NBC at 9:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday, January 4. Read on for a preview of the episode.
“Next Chapter” is the first new episode of SVU since November 9, when “Broken Rhymes” aired. The main case for “Next Chapter” centers on a woman who is raped and thinks the rapist is the same man who was already convicted of stalking her. In the second plot, Tucker is thinking about retiring and his future with Benson.
This new episode is also the first since to air since The Washington Post published excerpts from an interesting study by Gaurav Sood and Daniel Trielli. The two found that the entire Law & Order franchise over-represents whites and women as victims and perpetrators. They found that, after analyzing 731 episodes, only about 10 percent of criminals on the shows are black. According to the FBI, about 50 percent of murder victims are black, but only 10 percent of victims on the Law & Order shows are.
By the way, NBC still hasn’t scheduled “Unstoppable,” the season 18 episode where Gary Cole (Veep) plays a Donald Trump-inspired character. The episode was supposed to air in the fall and was last supposed to air on November 16.
