Lifetime is kicking off the new year with a brand new movie, the thriller Mommy, I Didn’t Do It. Starring former The Wonder Years actress Danica McKellar, the movie begins at 8 p.m. ET on Sunday, January 1. Read on for a preview of the movie.
Mommy, I Didn’t Do It is a sequel to the 2013 Lifetime movie The Wrong Woman, which also starred McKellar as Ellen Plainview. In the previous film, she was accused of a violent crime she didn’t commit. In the sequel, Ellen’s daughter Julie (Paige Searcy) is also accused of a crime she didn’t commit. Now that she has a law degree, Ellen hopes to prove her daughter’s innocence.
Although both The Wrong Woman and Mommy, I Didn’t Do It are fictional stories, The Wrong Woman was billed as a movie inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’s classic The Wrong Man. The 1956 Henry Fonda-starring movie was based on the story of Manny Balestrero, a New York nightclub musician who was wrongly accused of stealing from an insurance office. Even though he is eventually exonerated, the legal drama sent his wife (Vera Miles) into a depression and she was hospitalized.
Mommy, I Didn’t Do It brings back The Wrong Woman director Richard Gabai and writer Leland Douglas. Jonathan Bennett also returned to play Ben.
