Gary and Vicky from Chicago may not have won an award at The Oscars, but they emerged as the viral stars of the 2017 award show.
The couple, who were on a bus tour of Hollywood, were part of an elaborate prank by host Jimmy Kimmel. The pair and the rest of the tourists on the bus were guided into the Dolby Theatre after they were told they would be viewing an exhibit of Oscars memorabilia.
They entered the crowded theatre and appeared stunned that the actors, actresses and directors they watched in movies were sitting literally feet away.
Kimmel welcomed the group into the building and immediately spoke to “Gary” and “Vicky” from Chicago. With his cell phone in his hand, Gary was greeted by Nicole Kidman, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone and a slew of others.
Vicky said the couple are set to get married July 18 and humorously answered Kimmel’s question, “Who’s your favorite actor?” She responded “that man right there,” pointing to Denzel Washington. Washington then stood up and jokingly “married” Gary and Vicky, who kissed. Vicky was then given Jennifer Annison’s sunglasses to wear.
The appearance of Gary and Vicky from Chicago took the internet by storm almost instantly. Their full identities haven’t yet been revealed, but they figure to make the rounds on a few talk shows in the near future.
