WATCH: ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 5’ Extended Super Bowl Trailer

During Super Bowl LI, Disney teased the above one-minute, 20-second trailer for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, the fifth film in the franchise. Once again, Johnny Depp plays Captain Jack Sparrow.

The new film hits theaters on May 26, 2017 and was directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg, the directing team behind Kon Tiki. Jeff Nathanson wrote the movie.

Dead Men Tell No Tales is also the first movie in the series since the poorly received On Stranger Tides, which disappointed critics in 2011 but was still a monster hit worldwide. It also features the return of Orlando Bloom, who played Will Turner in the first three Pirates films.

Geoffrey Rush also returned to play Captain Barbossa. Kaya Scodelario, Brenton Thwaites and Javier Bardem joined the franchise. Bardem stars as the villain, Capitan Salzar, a ghost pirate searching for Jack Sparrow to get his revenge.

In a 2014 interview with IGN, Bloom suggested that Dead Men Tell No Tales is a sort of a reboot for the franchise.

“I’m of course Davey Jones now, so I’m down the bottom of the ocean,” Bloom told IGN. “It might be kind of fun to do something where I’m rumbling round the bottom of the ocean, because I won’t look anything like me. [Gestures to face] Get all gnarly.”

The Pirates series started in 2003 with The Curse of the Black Pearl, which surprisingly earned Depp a nomination for Best Actor at the Oscars. It was followed by Dead Man’s Chest, At World’s End and On Stranger Tides.

Disney also showed a new trailer for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 before kickoff.

The studio should already be done with new trailers for the Super Bowl. There is no trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi expected.
