Dacre Montgomery as Jason Scott/Red Ranger
Nostalgia for the 1990s is king at the movies this weekend, with the reboot of Haim Saban's Power Rangers finally hitting theaters on March 24, with screenings starting tonight. The film revives the format of the original series that began in 1993. The new movie is directed by Project Almanac's Dean Israelite and written by John Gatins, who worked on Kong: Skull Island.
In the new Power Rangers, the group has to stop Rita Relpusa, a witch and former Power Ranger, from getting her hands on the Zeo Crystal, and her Putty Patrol foot soldiers. They'll also face the giant monster Goldar. So far, the film has had a mixed resposne from critics, earning a 44 percent fresh rating at Rotten Tomatoes. But that isn't likely to stop longtime fans from checking out the movie.
The new cast is headlined by Dacre Montgomery, who plays Jason Scott, the leader of the Power Rangers as the Red Ranger. Montgomery is an Australian actor with very few credits to his name. Aside from Power Rangers, he's been in the movies safe Neighborhood and A Few Less Men. (Kimberley French/Lionsgate)
