Now that we’ve seen the season finale of Star Wars Rebels‘ third season, you might be wondering if the show is coming back for a fourth season. The good news is yes, the show has been renewed for season four! The bad news is that it likely won’t start again on Disney XD until Fall 2017. Even worse: it’s been confirmed that Season Four will be the last season of Rebels.

Back on March 3, Disney announced that Rebels was picked up for a fourth season and it’s already in production. More details about the season will be revealed during a panel at Star Wars Celebration in Orlando. The convention runs from April 13 to April 16 at the Orange County Convention Center.

“The team behind Star Wars Rebels delivers epic storytelling that has captivated fans of all ages across the globe,” Marc Buhaj, senior vice president, Programming and general manager, Disney XD, said in a statement in March. “We’re excited to continue sharing the journey of these fan-favorite Rebels with our audience in the fall.”

Rebels began five years before the start of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Star Wars: A New Hope. It centers on Phoenix Squadron, a group of Rebels who originated on Lothal and have joined the growing Rebel Alliance. The stars are the members of the Ghost crew, including Ezra Bridger (Taylor Gray), Kanan Jarrus (Freddie Prinze Jr.), Hera (Vannessa Marshall), Zeb (Steve Blum) and Chopper.

During season three, the team faced the evil Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) and saw Sabine Wren (Tiya Sircar) leave to help lead the Mandalorians against the Empire. Ezra also struggled with a dangerous connection to Darth Maul, who manipulated Ezra into leading him to Obi-Wan Kenobi. The dramatic fight ended with Maul’s death.

In the season finale “Zero Hour,” Phoenix Squadron was left broken and smaller after Thrawn thwarted their plans to liberate Lothal from the Empire. They never even got to leave Atollon, as the Empire ambushed them. After a dramatic fight and some help from Sabine, they managed to escape with their lives.

While there were many less-than-stellar filler episodes and disappointments (particularly “Warhead“) in season three, the great moments were really great. The show will be inching closer to the point where Hera takes part in the Battle of Scarif. We still don’t know who else from the Ghost team lives long enough to join her, so we have to keep tuning into Rebels.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly after Rogue One‘s release, producer David Filoni did confirm that the Sydulla referenced in Rogue One was Hera, so we know she survives the series. He also teased the possibility of re-telling the Battle of Scarif from the Ghost‘s point of view.

“I already have some theories about the story behind it,” Filoni told EW. “I can imagine doing that entire battle from their point of view, whoever is on the Ghost at that point.”
