Put down the Max Rager because the fight to keep Seattle from becoming ground zero for the zombie apocalypse starts now. The third season of The CW‘s iZombie is finally here. Titled “Heaven Just Got a Little Bit Smoother,” the new episode debuts at 9 p.m. ET on Tuesday, April 4. Read on for a preview of the episode and the trailer.

For those who aren’t aware of how iZombie works, the show stars Rose McIver as Dr. Olivia “Liv” Moore of the Seattle Medical Examiner’s Office. She’s actually a zombie and spent the first two seasons convincing Detective Clive Babineaux (Malcolm Goodwin) that she was really a psychic who got “visions” that helped him solve murders. During the explosive season two finale (which was actually filled with explosions), she had to tell Babineaux the truth. She gets her visions from the brains she eats that come from dead bodies.

The other members of “Team Z” are Dr. Ravi Chakrabarti (Rahul Kohli), her ex-fiance Major Lilywhite (Robert Buckley), her best friend Peyton Charles (Aly Michalka) and the man who actually started the zombie outbreak with his drug Utopium, Blaine (David Anders).

The team spent the first two seasons investigating what made people zombies, as Ravi tried to find a cure. Blaine took the cure, but one of the side-effects was losing his memory. Major, who is also a zombie, took the early version of the cure, but it was only temporary. Major was also stuck working for Max Rager CEO Vaughn Du Clark (Steve Weber), who was obsessed with keeping another big secret from Seattle residents. The newest version of Max Rager could turn drinkers into zombies. The season culminated in a launch party, where Vaughn was killed, but they met a new enemy: Vivian Stoll (Andrea Savage), the CEO of a paramilitary group who wants to turn Seattle into an international zombie headquarters.

In the season three premiere, Liv finds out that there are many more zombies in Seattle than she thought and that Stoll is building a zombie army. Major is also cleared for the Chaos Killer murders (they were zombies that Vaughn told Major to kill, but Major only freezed them until a cure could be found), but people still don’t like him. Meanwhile, no one believes that Blaine really lost his memories.

Despite the many different plots “Team Z” faces, McIver told CBR.com that we will still see Clive and Liv solving crimes.

“You will see the procedural. I don’t think we wanted to be chained to it for the rest of the existence of the series, but I am not suggesting that we will be moving wholesale,” McIver told CBR.com. “Is it possible that this is the beginning of every once in a blue moon? But [season] 3 [episode] 2 through [season] 3 [episode] 9, which we’re shooting now, we continue to see it.”
