Cheryl Burke’s ‘Dance Moms’ Gig & ‘Love on the Floor’ Tour

Tonight begins the semi-finals of Dancing With the Stars season 24 and former pro cast member Cheryl Burke returns to give viewers a taste of her Love On the Floor tour. In a statement made by Burke via Guttman PR, she discusses the tour, saying:

The LOVE ON THE FLOOR Tour is definitely my greatest accomplishment to date, not only as a dancer but also as a creative producer. I created this show because no matter how many shows I went to see, no matter how many dance programs I enjoyed, they all missed out on telling a story from start to finish. Dance is the most universal form of communication. It transcends all languages as the most primal and original forms of communicating with others. LOVE ON THE FLOOR reminds people that the language of love doesn’t necessarily need to be spoken.

Olympic ice skaters, both who appeared as contestants on Dancing With the Stars, Meryl Davis and Charlie White, are actually joining Burke on her tour as well. White has talked about working with Burke on the tour and said that:

It has been an interesting transition for us coming from a skating background and moving into dancing on the floor. It is very refreshing to perform in front of an audience and not have to worry about the judges. I find that in skating you train so hard to make every movement perfect whereas in dance you have a little more leeway. When we performed LOVE ON THE FLOOR, in Japan, everything was so high energy. You could actually feel the crowd, which loves figure skating, adapting to us in a new way and really appreciating the movement.

In addition to being on tour and appearing on DWTS, Burke has an active-wear line called Cee Bee by Cheryl Burke, which is sold exclusively on QVC, and she is the new face of Dance Moms. With Dance Moms star Abby Lee Miller going away to prison for financial and fraud charges, there was room for a new head of the show. This past March 2017, Miller quit the show, posting this message on her Instagram account:

The majority of children that follow me may be fast asleep, however now is the critical time to make the following statement: I WILL NO LONGER TAKE PART IN DANCE MOMS. FOR THE PAST SIX YEARS/ SEVEN SEASONS I HAVE ASKED, BEGGED, AND EVEN DEMANDED CREATIVE CREDIT FOR ALL THE IDEAS, AWARD WINNING ROUTINES, THEMES, AND COSTUMING – TO NO AVAIL! TODAY, I WAS SO PROUD THAT I WENT AGAINST THE PRODUCER’S IDEA (ONCE AGAIN) TO ENTER A COMMAND PERFORMANCE OF ONE OF MY FAVORITE NUMBERS… “WHERE HAVE ALL THE CHILDREN GONE?” ALONG WITH THREE BEAUTIFUL SOLOS! I don’t have a problem working with any kid, I love children and have dedicated my life to making other people’s children successful! I JUST HAVE A PROBLEM WITH BEING MANIPULATED, DISRESPECTED, AND USED – DAY IN AND DAY OUT BY MEN WHO NEVER TOOK A DANCE LESSON IN THEIR LIVES AND TREAT WOMEN LIKE DIRT! #dancemoms #season7 #ALDC #aldcalways #newbeginnings #aldcla #alllovedancecourage

Us Weekly reports that in 2015, Abby Lee Miller was indicted on 20 counts of bankruptcy fraud, concealment of bankruptcy assets and false bankruptcy declarations, for which she was sentenced to 366 days in jail. Miller regrets the actions that landed her in this legal mess, saying that:

I do [wish I could have done things differently]. I think there’s so many details and specifics — and I’m very detail-oriented — that [the judge] didn’t hear that would have definitely, I believe, have changed her opinion … It all comes down to paperwork and what’s written on a piece of paper.

As for new Dance Moms star Cheryl Burke, she wrote the follow message on Twitter:

I grew up with a tiger mom! I know how to motivate these girls from within. We’re here to succeed and create together. #dancemoms #mymomsetthetigermombar.

So, what did Miller have to say about Burke joining the show? Miller stated:

Wait until Cheryl Burke deals with [no costume budget]. At Dancing With the Stars, they have two floors — and entire building of seamstresses sewing, rhinestoning, fringe — she’s going to have to run downtown to [L.A. flee market] Santee Alley and buy something off the street in her own car, at 4:30 in rush hour traffic after we wrap, when everything is closing, because that’s what I did for six years.
