‘Kevin Can Wait’: Will the Show Return for Season 2?

Fans of Kevin Can Wait should know that this isn’t the end of Kevin Gable and his family– the show will be coming back a second season.

In March, CBS announced that thew were renewing the series, along with 18 other shows, for the 2017-2018 season.

Kevin Can Wait follows Kevin Gable (played by comedian and veteran actor Kevin James), a newly retired police officer whose retirement plans go awry when his eldest daughter (Taylor Spreitler) and her fiance (Ryan Cartwright) move in. The show was received well by audiences– it averaged a 2.5 demo for its first three episodes. The series’ ratings dropped over the season, but maintained above a 2.0, which is high for a CBS sitcom.

The network hasn’t yet announced when the show will be back for season 2.

During tonight’s season finale (the second in a two-part episode), James will reunite with his King of Queens co-star Leah Remini. Interestingly enough, that wasn’t always the plan. The comedian tells the New York Post, “I wouldn’t say that we had [the idea] when we opened the show, but I always knew that I wanted to work with Leah again… How could we do that? I always felt like we needed to do it in a way that felt organic to the show, like, how can we get Leah on where she’s not just a character working in a deli who I meet for the first time — and then we gotta get to know each other?”

Last week, we saw Gable coming out of retirement to work with his former partner, played by Remini, in an undercover operation where they played husband and wife. Speaking about reuniting with Remini, James says, “It felt like riding the bicycle again… I felt like it was 10 years earlier; it felt so similar to those days [on ‘The King of Queens’]. It’s like we never stopped and just picked up where we left off.”

What’s up next for James? He’ll be headlining a Netflix stand-up special. The special is scheduled to tape in late 2017 with a release next year.
