The 18th season of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit ends tonight, and Olivia Benson has quite the case on her hands. The two-hour finale, titled “American Dream/Sanctuary,” starts at 9 p.m. ET on Wednesday, May 24, 2017. Read on for spoilers and check out the trailer.

In the two-part episode, it’s all-hands on deck when a Muslim family’s daughter is killed and it is classified as a hate crime. The case takes an unforeseen turn when ADA Rafael Barba is forced to deport the only witness who could help put away the suspect. He then has to drop the charges, which inspires violent public protests. Benson then gets desperate to make an arrest, while caught between two families who want to see justice served.

“I’ve got to tell you, it’s so good,” Mariska Hargitay told E! News about the finale. “It’s compelling, it’s absolutely frightening. It’s a rough episode and I am so incredibly proud of it.”

“There’s a lot of frustration involved in terms of trying to do what’s right…It’s two hours, just settle in and say, ‘That’s going to be the night,’ and just watch,” he said.
