‘Sense8’, Netflix: When Does It Become Available on Netflix?

Netflix will release season two of sense8 on Friday at 12am PT/3am ET.

The series was created by Lana and Lilly Wachowski and J. Michael Straczynski specifically for Netflix, and its return is highly anticipated, considering season one became available for streaming in June 2015. The show highlights an array of LGBT characters and themes, and received the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Drama Series last year. It was also nominated for an Emmy in 2016 for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music.

Due to the amount of time separating seasons 1 and 2, Netflix released a two-hour Christmas special on December 23, 2016, that attempted to bridge the nearly two-year gap. For those new to the series, they should know its plot revolves around strangers from across the world who have been mentally and emotionally linked to one another for their entire lives.

Many changes have taken place over the past two years, both in front of the camera and behind it. For starters, Lana Wachowski will be acting as the show’s only showrunner this season. In May of last year, CBS announced that that Lilly would be stepping down from season two of Sense8. Lilly announced she was transgender two months prior to the CBS announcement, and series star Jamie Clayton subsequently told BuzzFeed that she “needed to take some time off” but could potentially return for a season 3.

This season, Toby Onwumere will be replacing Aml Ameen as Nairobi bus driver Capheus. In April of last year, Ameen abruptly left the show because of “creative differences” with the show’s creators. In a recent interview with the Independent, Max Riemelt, who plays Wolfgang Bogdanow, discussed the upcoming season of the show. Asked what fans can expect from season two, Riemelt said, “Well, what can I say without spoiling it? More more more – more of everything. More sex. More violence. But also, eventually, maybe some new characters. Yeah, it’s getting even more complex.”
