‘World of Dance’ Judges 2017 & Host On NBC

'World of Dance' Judges 2017 & Host

Tonight is the premiere of Jennifer Lopez's new reality competition show World of Dance, bringing together all kinds of dance styles. And, JLo has also put together an all-star cast, from the judges to the host. In creating a show like this, with a grand prize of $1 million, Lopez told Entertainment Weekly: The idea of the biggest dance competition in the world was a no-brainer for me. Derek Hough echoed Lopez's words and added: In the past decade, we’ve seen dance become a star in itself, and America’s been educated, so it’s a good time to go to the next level. Lopez also dished to E! News on what to expect from the show, saying: There's a level of excitement and it's so worldly. It is really people competing from all over the world that you don't know what you're going to see. Sometimes I'm on the edge of my seat like thinking that they're going to hurt themselves because they're pushing the limits and risks of what dance is and flexibility and acrobatics and everything. As for host Jenna Dewan Tatum, many know her from her lead role in Step Up and from her high-profile husband Channing Tatum. Not only is Tatum the host of the show, she also helps mentor the contestants and she told Entertainment Weekly that many of them ask her about the judges, saying: We know that Ne-Yo is a stickler about being clean, Derek talks about the choreography and the technique, and Jennifer wants heart. Where are we with making sure we’re getting that in the routine? Tatum also spoke with The Hollywood Reporter, telling them what makes World of Dance stand out from all the other dance competition shows. She explained: "So You Think You Can Dance" is amazing, but it's very technical, and if you're not a dancer sometimes it can feel a little polarizing in terms of watching it. With "World of Dance," it was very much our intention to open it up to the masses. We wanted to invite people in and teach them a little bit about dance, but really make it more of an experience. She continued, saying: I am working on another dance show, so I know them very well, and when "World of Dance" came around, what I really liked about it was it's from dancers for dancers. For me growing up as a dancer and becoming an actress, Jennifer really was this icon in that world to me. And she was very passionate about having me be on the show. When she gets passionate, it's pretty hard to say no to Jennifer Lopez. World of Dance airs on NBC Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT. Get to know each of the star judges in our cast gallery.
