Ilana Glazer is a 30-year-old comedian and the creative mind behind Broad City– now a hit Comedy Central show. In May, Glazer secretly married her longtime boyfriend, David Rooklin,

Here’s what you need to know about him:

1. He Is a Research Scientist at NYU

According to LinkedIn, David Rooklin is a research scientist who has worked at New York University since May 2012.

Rooklin attended New York University from 2006 to 2012, obtaining his PhD in Computational Biology. From September 2006 to May 2007, he worked as a teaching assistant at NYU teaching Chemistry. From September 2009 to May 2010, he was an adjunct teacher there, teaching Biochemistry, General Chemistry, and Chemistry in the Environment.

In addition, during the summer of 2009, Rooklin was a research intern at Merck, a pharmaceutical company. Before obtaining his PhD, Rooklin earned his B.A. in Biochemistry in 2002.

In May 2016, Rooklin won an NYU Stern School of Business business competition for his startup Redesign Science. At the time, Ilana Glazer took to Instagram to say that she is extremely proud of Rooklin and his success.

“I am so mf’ing proud of my amazing bf David,” she wrote. “…Competition was stiff; these other businesses were SMART and serving necessity. But #sorrynotsorry yall, David and his team won. I love him so much. He’s summoning his witch powers to make something out of nothing, and it’s working! 👊🔮🔬⚗”

Glazer has not talked much about her relationship with Rooklin, and we don’t fully know when the two began dating.

We do know that they’ve been together since at least June 2013, when Glazer posted a photo of Rooklin on her Instagram account with the caption, “I love him.” She also in August 2013 posted a photo of her brother with Rooklin, referring to them as her boys.

In June 2014, The New Yorker published a profile of Ilana Glazer and her Broad City co-star Abbi Jacobson. In the article, it mentions that Glazer is dating Rooklin. The New Yorker described him at the time by writing, “A trim clean-cut white man in his thirties, with glasses, Rooklin wore green cords, green sneakers, and a blue crewneck.”

However, it’s clear from the article that Ilana Glazer would prefer to keep her private life private, as she told the New Yorker reporter that she did not feel comfortable with her boyfriend being interviewed for the article.

Glazer has not really discussed how she and Rooklin crossed paths, but they likely met while they were both students at New York University. Glazer graduated from NYU in 2009, obtaining a degree in psychology.

Clearly, Rooklin is aware of how powerful the fan base around Broad City is, as he told The New Yorker in an interview.

“By going to see their live shows over the years, I’ve gotten an idea of the core facet of their movement…If you remove the divide between performer and audience, you have something else,” he said. “It’s like a collaboration.”

Ilana Glazer and David Rooklin were married in February 2017.

This was not something that Glazer publicized at first. But on February 26th, comedy writer and director Chioke Nassor posted a photo on Instagram of Ilana and David together, and this is how we found out about the wedding. Nassor wrote, “What can I say? I love love! Happy matrimony to two of my favorite people. 😘”

A source soon told Metro that the couple was wed at City Hall late in February.

While not getting into any of the details, Glazer subsequently confirmed the wedding on Instagram, writing simply, “we got married.”

Like Ilana Glazer herself, David Rooklin is a proud feminist. In January, Glazer posted a photo of her boyfriend wearing a “feminist” hat. She wrote in the caption, “a real man 💦 … 🌊.”

Glazer has previously said that she is “absolutely” a feminist and that she doesn’t understand women who run away from the word.

“I feel like a feminist is like gender equality,” she told Pop Sugar. “You know, we’re feminists, we have our show, the people who work on it are feminists…I mean, we’re like male-ists too.”

However, both Ilana Glazer and her co-star Abbi Jacobson feel that the dynamic between their characters on Broad City should be relatable to all people, not just women.

“There’s this belief with no merit that media with women at the center applies only to women, but media with men at the center applies to everyone,” Glazer told Miss Portmanteau. “Abbi and Ilana’s friendship represents that ride-or-die dynamic for anyone to whom it speaks, not just women.”

5. He & Ilana Share Similar Political Beliefs

Ilana Glazer has been outspoken in her liberal political beliefs, especially during the most recent election and the administration of Donald Trump. It appears that Glazer and her husband are united in these progressive views.

In November, Glazer posted a video on her Instagram account of herself, her boyfriend and her father endorsing Foster Campbell, a Democratic politician who was running for U.S. Senate in Louisiana that month. However, Campbell ended up losing to Republican John Neely Kennedy.

In addition, this past January, Rooklin posted a photo from the Women’s March, writing, “stay strong 🇺🇸.”
