Now that Fear the Walking Dead is ending, how long do we have to wait until it returns? Here’s everything we know so far about the premiere date for Fear the Walking Dead Season 4.

First, fans don’t have to worry about whether the show is renewed or canceled, because it’s already been renewed. In fact, AMC announced the renewal before Season 3 premiered in June. That’s how excited the network is about the series.

Unfortunately, an exact start date hasn’t yet been announced by AMC as of the time of publication.

Sometimes we can guess when a show will next premiere based on what the premiere dates were for previous seasons. But that’s not so easy with Fear.

Season 1 was only six episodes, and Season 2 was 15 episodes. Season 3 was 16 episodes.

All three seasons of Fear the Walking Dead ended in early October, so there wasn’t too much of a break between the show’s finale and The Walking Dead’s premiere. Season 4 likely will be the same.

Here’s when each season premiered:

  • Season 1: Premiered August 23, 2015 and ended October 4, 2015
  • Season 2: Premiered April 10, 2016 and ended October 2, 2016
  • Season 3: Premiered June 4, 2017 and ended October 15, 2017

Last season, it seemed a good guess to think that Fear the Walking Dead would premiere again in April. But it actually didn’t premiere until June, and then it took a hiatus that prevented the show from overlapping with HBO’s Game of Thrones, which also aired on Sunday nights. This later premiere date allowed the show to have a much shorter hiatus than in Season 2, allowing the momentum to carry it a bit more.

Exactly what’s going to happen with Season 4’s premiere date is tougher to predict, since AMC hasn’t set up a good pattern for its show in previous seasons. We can be fairly certain that Season 4 will end in early October, but it’s tougher to predict when it will begin.

Season 2 of Fear premiered exactly one week after that season of The Walking Dead ended. But for Season 3, AMC decided they didn’t need that kind of close connection between the two shows, and didn’t start Fear until June, even though The Walking Dead ended around the same time as the year before, on April 2.

So April or June 2018 are good guesses, leaning more heavily to June if AMC wants to continue the pattern it started with Season 3. But as of the time of publication, we don’t know for certain.
