Why Is ‘The Orville’ a Rerun Tonight? When Does It Return?

FOX

If you tuned in to watch The Orville at its regular time of 9 p.m. Eastern tonight, October 19, you might have noticed something a little unusual. Instead of the new Episode 7 that you were expecting, FOX is airing a rerun tonight. The series premiere “Old Wounds” is airing again this evening. So why isn’t The Orville on tonight and when is it returning with Episode 7?

The new episode of The Orville will air next week, on October 26 at 9 p.m. Eastern on FOX.

FOX hasn’t given an official reason why The Orville isn’t airing tonight, but many fans think it’s because FOX doesn’t want the show to compete with baseball, possibly hurting its ratings. The Dodgers and the Cubs are facing off tonight at the same time.

So don’t worry — the show isn’t canceled and FOX isn’t giving this new series the Firefly treatment.

Even though the World Series is next week, The Orville will still be airing a new episode anyway. This is likely because the show won’t actually be competing with the World Series, which doesn’t have a game on Thursday, October 26.

Below is a trailer for next week’s episode:

Here’s the synopsis for next week:

When two Union anthropologists go missing on a planet similar to 21st century Earth, Ed sends a team led by Kelly to find them, but the mission quickly goes awry when they realize the society’s government is completely based on a public voting system to determine punishment in the all-new “Majority Rule” episode…

The last time the show aired, we saw Mercer and Mallory go undercover on a Krill ship, disguised as Krill, to learn more about their beliefs. They were quite a few comedic moments, but the show also got quite dark, as they had to make a decision that affected the lives of everyone on board.

This episode was very well done, and fans are raving about the new series. It will be fascinating to see what happens next week.
