Anna Graham Hunter: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Anna Graham Hunter, Anna Graham Hunter Dustin Hoffman, Dustin Hoffman Accused Sexual Harassment Death of Salesman

Anna Graham Hunter has accused Dustin Hoffman of sexually harassing her when she was in high school.

On Wednesday morning, the Hollywood Reporter published a guest article written by Anna Graham Hunter, who claims she was sexually harassed by Dustin Hoffman when she was 17.

Hunter was working on the set of Death of a Salesman in 1985 when she says Hoffman was “openly flirtatious, he grabbed my ass, he talked about sex to me and in front of me.”

During her five week experience on the set, Hunter wrote detailed letters to her sister about her encounters with Hoffman. An excerpt from a letter dated January 31, 1985 reads, “Today, when I was walking Dustin to his limo, he felt my ass four times. I hit him each time, hard, and told him he was a dirty old man. He took off his hat and pointed to his head (shaved for the part) and said, ‘No, I’m a dirty young man, I have a full head of hair.’ So would Bob have fired me if he’d seen me hit Dustin?”

On Wednesday afternoon, Hoffman’s name was trending on Twitter, with a number of fans commenting on the alleged incident. One person wrote, “In 2016, if you saw an actor’s name trending, you immediately assumed they’d died. In 2017, it’s because they’re a predator.. .”

Read on to learn more about Anna Graham Hunter.

1. She Was Working as a PA on ‘Death of a Salesman’ When Hoffman Allegedly Harassed Her

Hunter was working as a PA (production assistant) on the set of Death of a Salesman when she says Hoffman sexually harassed her.

A senior in high school at the time, Hunter claims that the actor asked her to give him a foot rub her first day on set. When she told him she was only good at necks, Hoffman told her, “So pretend it’s a neck.”

Another time, Hunter says she went to Hoffman’s dressing room to take his breakfast order. He told her, “I’ll have a hard-boiled egg … and a soft-boiled clitoris,” before bursting out in laughter.

In a letter dated February 4, 1985, Hunter explains that she got in trouble with her supervisor after she told Hoffman she “didn’t appreciate his wandering hands of his comments.” A 17-year-old Hunter writes, “… the bad news is Brenda* [my supervisor] said it’s too bad it became an issue… She said that for the sake of the production we have to sacrifice some of our values and just let it roll over our heads. She said we should try to have a sense of humor and just giggle and slap his hands or something. But that’s when I feel the cheapest, like, ‘Oh, she really likes it.'”

Despite these encounters with the Oscar-winning actor, Hunter says she enjoyed her overall experience working on the film– in fact, it was the enjoyment that made her feel all the more conflicted when it came to speaking out about the incident. “There was so much I loved about being on set — taking John Malkovich’s lunch orders and falling more deeply in love every time he spoke to me or said my name; bonding with the crew as we worked 16-hour days; hearing Arthur Miller say my first two names because they sounded like a word game, and that amused him; dancing the polka with Charles Durning, who made every room he entered a happier place. And yes, I loved the attention from Dustin Hoffman. Until I didn’t.”

2. She Now Works as an Executive Coach, Management Consultant, & Career Transition Expert

According to her LinkedIn, Hunter is a Chief Coach and Cofounder at ArcVida, a company that “gives young professionals the personalized tools and support they need to launch a fulfilling successful career.” Prior to that, she worked as a Career Happiness Coach at Anna Hunter, Inc.

A portion of Graham’s biography on her LinkedIn reads, “For nearly a decade, executive coach, management consultant, and career transition expert Anna Graham Hunter has helped thousands of individuals achieve career happiness through a wide range of life-changing strategies. As someone who believes that work can and should be deeply connected to who we are, Anna is dedicated to the professional and personal success of her clients.”

Hunter’s article on ‘Medium’, an online writing platform.

In December of last year, Hunter published a blog titled “A Playbook for Seducing Me in 7 Steps” on Medium, an online publishing platform.

She lists the first step as Be Curious. “So ask me about stuff that gets me going. Hold off on your opinions. When I start talking about why the advent of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler signaled a cosmic shift for feminists, or how I’m worried that my minimalism has become pathological, or why ‘Speed’ is one of the greatest movies ever made, you’ll know I’m comfortable.”

The seventh bullet listed is Follow My Pace and Make Me Crazy. Hunter writes, “You know what’s hot? Restraint. Thanks to Emily Nagoski’s illuminating book Come As You Are, I now understand that all of us have accelerators and all of us have brakes.”

4. She Attended Stuyvesant High School & Graduated from Smith College

Hunter attended Stuyvesant High School from 1981 to 1985. She graduated from Smith College in 1989 with a BA in Classics.

She was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, and currently resides in Los Angeles.

Some outlets have reported that Hunter is an actress, with articles titled things like: “Actress Anna Graham Hunter Accuses Dustin Hoffman of Harassing Her on Movie Set When She Was 17.” However, there are no records that Hunter is, or was, an actress. In fact, after Hunter posted the article to her Facebook page on Wednesday, a Facebook friend commented, “Of course they think this only happens to actresses,” to which Hunter responded, “Oh wow…”

Others have commended Hunter for her bravery. One Facebook friend writes, “I love your honesty and I love the gray areas of the complicated navigation of emotions and crushes especially the connection you make from one experience to another, it was said so clearly and is so compelling. I am so glad you chose to do this.”

On Wednesday afternoon, Hoffman apologized for his actions in a statement to the Hollywood Reporter.

“I have the utmost respect for women and feel terrible that anything I might have done could have put her in an uncomfortable situation,” Hoffman said. “I am sorry. It is not reflective of who I am.”

The allegations against the 80-year-old actor are the latest in a series of sexual harassment allegations against prominent Hollywood figures, including Harvey Weinstein, Brett Ratner, Jeremy Piven, Brett Ratner, and James Tomback, among others.

It’s time people analyzed what a joke is. A joke is a pretend action only. It’s a “what if …?” It’s a “suppose I …?” It’s done to elicit a jokey and perhaps a shocked response. It’s always harmless, and the only harm done is when people try to make something of it. Anything not acted out is a harmless release, and reflects innocence. So please women and men who are attempting to put new meaning on old traditional norms of behavior, just shut up! Dustin Hoffman loves to do this, and why not? He has fun, and the only stomach turning result is his humble apologizing. For journalists with nothing better to do, it’s all fake news anyway.
