Pink and Kelly Clarkson are reportedly opening the 2017 American Music Awards tonight with a killer performance. Pink is performing her song “Beautiful Trauma” tonight, but what is truly going to impress is her death-defying stunt off the side of a building. Us Weekly reports that even Pink is nervous about what could happen tonight when she is suspended from the side of the 34-floor JW Marriott hotel in downtown Los Angeles. Pink was spotted carrying out this stunt while rehearsing, but specifics are unknown. Pink and Kelly Clarkson are set to open the show, but they could each be performing separately later in the show. Details on how much stage time each of them will have are not released.
For Pink’s big stunt, she has admitted that she is panicking a bit. In an interview about her upcoming performance, she revealed, “I’m just afraid I’m going to get up there and be like, ‘I don’t know if I can do this.’ I don’t care about heights, I just care about being able to actually breathe up there … I feel the fear this time. This is nothing you can prepare for … This is by far the craziest, most insane thing I’ve ever attempted to do. This is the first time that I’ve ever panicked.” According to TMZ, the AMAs had to get a permit to make Pink’s performance happen. Recently, Kelly Clarkson gushed about having the opportunity to perform with Pink tonight. Clarkson, who is celebrating 15 years since she first won the title of American Idol, previously revealed to Entertainment Tonight, “I think, honestly, at the end of the day, even though we’re different artists, at the core, we both love great singers, we both love soulful music. She’s branched out just like me, in like the singer-songwriter kinda country stuff or rock ‘n’ roll. We both love a lot of the same things. I think, too, just the level of respect that comes with that, the admiration. Even though we are different, we do have a lot of similarities. I’ve been really excited about doing this with her.” Clarkson also said that people have been comparing her to Pink and acting as though they are competition for each other. Clarkson stated that, “The sad thing is, a lot of times people pit us against each other. And that happened right before our records came out. They’re like, ‘Who’s going to top each other?’ I was like, ‘Why can’t we both just be successful?’ It’s just one of those things where, I feel like they don’t do that to men. So, it’s really cool that Pink and I get this opportunity to show people like, ‘Hey! Everybody can be successful, there’s plenty of talent to go around, plenty of love to go around.’ We’re all different, but at the same time, we all love music and that’s why we’re here.”
